Amy Schumer went from a hustling stand-up comedian to a major movie star.
“After my dad got MS and we went bankrupt and my mom left him, that period from age 12 to 15 was a really rough time,” Schumer recalled to GQ in a 2015 profile. “And we all suffered from it, my siblings and I.”
As a way to help make ends meet, Schumer started performing comedy sets.
Schumer settled down in 2018, marrying chef Chris Fischer after a few months of dating. They welcomed their son, Gene, the next year.
In 2022, Schumer kickstarted a years-long health journey by undergoing liposuction. She later revealed a battle with Cushing syndrome, a condition where the body has too much cortisol, sharing in December 2025 that she lost 50 pounds as a way to “survive” the disease.
Schumer’s weight loss journey was aided by her use of GLP-1 medications, which she has been open about in recent years.
“Three years ago, I tried Wegovy,” she said. “I was puking, I couldn’t handle it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula, whatever. But anyway, I went on this Telehealth meeting with Midi Health, and it was cheap. I wanted to try it myself ‘cause I wanted to recommend it to my friends who are nurses and teachers.”
Schumer added that she later switched to Mounjaro and hormonal medications, which helped.
