At Miss Universe 2025, Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch was named the new winner. The pageant, held in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday, November 20, was surrounded by controversy.

On November 4, several contestants walked out of a meeting held by pageant organizer Nawat Itsaragrisil. During the event, Itsaragrisil called out Bosch for turning down a request to appear in a photoshoot to promote Thailand. “Be careful. You are in Thailand. You are in a game,” he was heard telling the contestants.

Bosch attempted to defend herself but Itsaragrisil tried to stop her. He was heard calling her a “dummy.” He called security to remove her but other contestants stood up and left with her in protest.

The organization spoke out hours after the incident.

“A high-level delegation, led by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mario Búcaro, is traveling to Thailand to strengthen collaboration with the host country, [the Miss Grand International Organization (MGI)], and relevant authorities,” the organization said. “This mission aims to coordinate efforts, ensure a secure and professional environment for all delegates, and reaffirm MUO’s commitment to transparency, respect, and unity.”

The pageant added, “The Miss Universe Organization remains steadfast in its mission to promote collaboration, respect, and opportunity for women around the world, working hand in hand with all partners to ensure a safe, inspiring, and memorable experience for every delegate.”

Itsaragrisil was dismissed from this year’s pageant following the incident.

On November 5, Itsaragrisil held a press conference to apologize for his actions. “I am human. I didn’t want to do anything like that,” USA Today reported he said.

Miss Universe Organization President Raúl Rocha addressed the situation, stating, “I will not allow the values of respect and dignity towards women to be violated.”

After her win, Bosch wrote on Instagram, “Today I reaffirmed that what God has destined for you, neither envy stops it, nor destiny aborts it, nor luck changes it.”
