Prince William will not be relocating his family to Buckingham Palace once he becomes king, royal expert Rebecca English claims.
Us Weekly confirmed on Saturday, August 16, that William, 43, and Princess Kate Middleton would be moving their family to Windsor Great Park’s Forest Lodge after living in Adelaide Cottage for the past three years.
In the Daily Mail report published one day later, a source told English that this move is “for the long term” and it’s William and Kate’s “intention” to stay at Forest Lodge even after the Prince of Wales’ eventual coronation.
Us has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment.
A separate account of William and Kate’s move, published by The Sun on Friday, August 15, shared a similar sentiment.
Sources told the site’s royal editor, Matt Wilkinson, that the couple is hoping their new living situation will bring a “fresh start” following Kate’s cancer battle last year. One insider said the couple experienced “some really difficult times” while living in Adelaide, which is why they are looking for a “new chapter.” The same source said William and Kate, 43, are hoping Forest Lodge will be their “forever home” with kids Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 6. (Kate announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. She revealed this past January that she was in remission.)
The new home has eight bedrooms, an upgrade from the four-bedroom abode where they’ve been living. The Forest Lodge house will allow the couple to be “as hands on as possible” as they balance parenting and their royal family duties, an insider told The Sun.
The outlet also confirmed that the permissions for internal and external renovations were requested in June. Documents obtained by The Sun reveal that the home needed “new doors and windows, stripping out of internal walls, renovated ceilings and new floors” before William and Kate moved in. (The Sun confirmed that the previous tenants had purchased new property and moved out.)
It was also reported by People on Sunday that William and Kate’s decision to relocate led to “two families” being “asked to vacate their homes ahead of the royal family’s move.”
Us understands that no eviction notices were given, and tenants have moved to similar or better housing within the Great Park, with everyone remaining in Crown Estate properties.
As for when William and Kate will start living in their new home, a date has not yet been revealed, but Kensington Palace confirmed to Us that they’re set to move “later this year.”
