Shocking video shows a dump truck swallowed by a massive sinkhole it was on its way to repair in New Jersey, as a car sank into a second one nearby.
The truck was delivering asphalt to the site on Tuesday when it ended up vertically halfway in the ground, with the front half sticking out above the street in Philipsburg near the border with Pennsylvania, footage obtained by 6 ABC shows.
When it fell, it damaged a water main, leaving dozens of customers without water, the local utility company, Aqua New Jersey, confirmed.
The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by medical personnel, according to the Phillipsburg Police Department.
Some 30 feet down the street, a car sank into a second sinkhole.
That car has been removed, according to WFMZ.
Aqua NJ officials told WFMZ they have to wait until the dump truck is removed from the sinkhole before they can repair the water main.
The fissures opened up on Summit Avenue near the intersection with Lewis Street, prompting the Town of Phillipsburg to issue a local state of emergency by Tuesday afternoon.
Drivers and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area until its deemed safe.
